Prepping Your Home for Colder Months
Fall in South Surrey and White Rock is nothing short of picturesque. As leaves change their hues and the air carries a crispness, it’s a gentle reminder for homeowners to prep their homes for the colder months. Here’s a handy checklist to keep your property in tip-top shape:
Gutters and Downspouts: Clear them of leaves and debris. Ensure they're directing water away from the house to prevent any foundation issues.
Heating System: Schedule a professional check-up. Replace filters and ensure vents aren’t obstructed.
Roof Inspection: Check for damaged or missing shingles. It’s best to address these issues before winter storms roll in.
Seal Windows and Doors: Check for drafts and seal gaps. Not only will this keep your home warm, but it will also save on heating bills.
Chimney and Fireplace: If you use them, ensure they're clean and safe. Consider hiring a professional chimney sweep.
Garden Care: Trim back trees and shrubs, especially those close to the house. Prepare your garden beds for the next season.
Safety Devices: Test smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers. Replace batteries if necessary.
Winter Equipment: Ensure blowers, shovels, salt and other winter equipment are easily accessible and in working order.
Outdoor Faucets: Drain and shut them off to prevent pipes from freezing.
Insulate Pipes: Insulate pipes in unheated areas like the garage to prevent them from freezing if we have one of those cold snaps pass through.
